The City of Gold is chock full of activities. But it can be a bit of a challenge to find things to do in Johannesburg for adults. At DC.ONE, we’re always looking for new places to visit and find inspiration.
So you’ve got yourself a new pair of shoes, now it’s time to show them off. Whether you live in Joburg, or you’re in town on holiday, here are some of our favourite activities to do in Joburg.
Tip: Not sure what shoes to bring to the city? Check out our blog post on what shoes to pack for Joburg.
Best Things to do in Joburg
Grab a buddy or a group of friends and get ready to have plenty of fun. With this list of activities in Johannesburg, you’ll have plenty of ideas for your weekends. Each attraction offers a different experience that you won’t forget.
While they might not be everyone’s cup of tea, we’d recommend trying them at least once.
Let it All Out at the Rage Room
Destruction therapy has made its way to Joburg. This method of emotional release has become popular around the world.
Destroying old electronics and throwing bottles is a therapeutic way to get the anger out of your system (in a healthy way). It works great as a date, group outing, family excursion or even a team-building activity.
Make sure you’re wearing closed shoes as things can get messy. You’ll want to protect your feet from shards of glass from bottles as well as any parts from the electronics you’ve destroyed. The Rage Room will give you face protection, gloves, and overalls.
Rage Room is located in Lonehill, on the same grounds as Jozi X. You’lL need to book in advance to secure your spot, especially if you want to go on the weekend.
Conquer an Escape Room
Whoever thought getting paid to be locked in a room would be so much fun was a genius. Escape Rooms have become popular worldwide, so much so that there’s even a movie franchise.
With an escape room, you get locked in a room and you are tasked with escaping it. Each room has a number of puzzles you need to solve in order to leave the room. You only get an hour to escape and limited hints. You’ll be on your feet for the hour, so you’ll want to make sure you have a comfy pair of shoes.
There are multiple escape rooms in Joburg, each with different themed rooms. So you can choose your experience.

Book a ticket for your car, park it in front of the screen and tune in to the drive-in's radio station. Grab your blankets, pack some snacks, kick off your sneakers and enjoy the movie.

Check Out Some Street Art
Johannesburg is home to some incredible artists. But not all of it can be found in galleries. You can find plenty of urban art on the streets of Jozi. Of all the things to do in JHB, looking at Johannesburg street art is one of the most inspiring.
Go Climbing with CityRock
One of the most fun things to do in Joburg is to spend some time at CityRock. Test your limits at this climbing gym. Not only will it get your adrenaline pumping, but it’s also great exercise. It might even become a new hobby.
While you’ll walk in wearing your own shoes, you’ll need to rent a pair of climbing shoes while you’re there.
Get Your Adrenaline Pumping at Jozi X
Jozi X is not just for kids. Adults are welcomed with open arms. They offer team building activities and even Bachelor/ Bachelorette parties.
You can choose from a range of activities, including paint splatter, Battle Rush Obstacle course, Parkour, Zorbing, Nerf Wars, Bubble Soccer, Bag Jump, Mountain Boarding, Archery and Target Shooting. A day at Jozi X is one of the best things to do in Johannesburg.
Explore the Honeydew Mazes
Test your sense of direction with Honeydew Mazes. They have a variety of mazes for you to figure your way out of. There are some activities just meant for kids, but there is still plenty for adults to do.
The Giant Mazes are plenty of fun. The Elemental Maze is open year-round, but the Maize Maze is seasonal. You can also explore the mazes at night. The venue organises Moonlight Mazes that happen after the sun goes down. You and three friends can form a team and try to get out of the maze before anyone else.
Visit a Water Park
This activity doesn’t require shoes. But we’ll make an exception since it's so much fun. With water slides, lazy rivers and wave pools, a day spent at a water park is always fun. You can even bring the kids along.
Joburg has two water parks, Wild Waters in Boksburg and Happy Island Waterworld. Both have a variety of water rides for adults.
Go For a Photoshoot
Grab your friends, grab a camera and head to one of Johannesburg’s most Instagrammable places. Taking photos can be a great way to snap some social media pictures, step out of your comfort zone and just have fun.
